The Southern Telecom Project Circle, with headquarters at Chennai ,is responsible for planning, survey and execution of long distance Optical Fibre Schemes using cutting edge technology such as SDH and DWDM in Southern States including Union Territory of Pondicherry. In addition Data Networks are also being executed by the circle.Many Special Projects like NIB-II, Bharat Lanka Submarine Cable, AFNET, Wi-MAX, National Knowledge N/W etc are being carried out by STP.
Shri P.R.Ananthan is the Chief General Manager, Southern Telecom Projects Chennai. He is assisted by shri J.Tatachari, General Manager, Projects at Bangalore , Shri I.N.Y. Prasad, General Manager, Projects at Hyderabad and Shri RM.Subbaiah, General Manager, Projects at Madurai , Shri M.Arunakumar, GM AFNET, Bangalore. They are being assisted by DGMs who in turn controls Divisions executings the Projects headed by Divisional Engineers
Today, all the Telephone Exchanges in the Southern region are connected by reliable Optical Fibre / Radio systems. After achieving 100% reliable digital connectivity for the exchanges ,Southern Telecom Projects has embarked on providing Fibre to Home in Optical rings for the first time in India by execution of Overlay Access Networks in Southern Cities facilitating dedicated leased line with required Band Width on demand to High end Subscribers.
BSNL has expanded the range of the network by National Internet Backbone II(NIB II) Project covering 71 cities. This has enabled us to provide internet Access on dial-up basis, narrow /broad band services, data centers and Corporate networks in big way. Southern Telecom Projects has successfully commissioned the Project-I of NIB-II on 19-3-05.
